St. Mary’s Ends Fall Season with Loss

Selinsgrove, Pa. - The Susquehanna University men's tennis team snapped St. Mary's College of Maryland's two-match win streak Monday afternoon as the Seahawks suffered a 6-3 setback to end their fall season with a loss.

Sophomore Thomas Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) was St. Mary's only winner in singles play as Hoesman notched a 6-2, 6-1 win over freshman Mats Haaland (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) at No. 1 singles.

Senior captain Kenny Nugent (Pocomoke, Md./Pocomoke) and freshman Kyle Feeley (Baltimore, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) teamed up to post an 8-6 win over the sophomore tandem of Matthew Quadrini (Escondido, Calif./Brunswick [Maine]) and Grant Uber (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) at No. 2 doubles.

Freshman Berrett Brand (Frederick, Md./Urbana) made his collegiate debut at No. 3 doubles with sophomore Robbie Bourdon (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) as the pair tallied an 8-4 win over senior Casey Oliver (State College, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) and junior Bruce Osborn (Sayre, Pa./Sayre Area). 

St. Mary's will be idle until the spring season when the Seahawks host NCAA Division II Virginia Union University at 3:30 pm on February 26, 2010.
