St. Mary’s Picks Up First CAC Win

Dover, Del. - Playing in their third match in two days, the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team notched their second straight win and first Capital Athletic Conference victory of the season with a 7-2 win over Wesley College Saturday afternoon.

Junior Kenny Nugent (Pocomoke, Md./Pocomoke) is now 9-1 in his last 10 matches as Nugent posted a 6-1, 6-0 straight set victory over senior Rashad Laster (Brandywine, Md./Brandywine) at No. 6 singles.  Nugent owns a 12-3 (2-0 CAC) record in singles action, including a 6-0 mark at No. 5, while his 12 wins are a team-high.

Wesley's junior Mickey DeSouza (Beverly, N.J./Palmyra) and freshman Christopher Maximo (Dover, Del./Dover) outlasted the Seahawk tandem of seniors Jeremy Butanis (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and Andrew MacLaughlin (Cambridge, Md./Cambridge-S. Dorchester) for a 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles.

St. Mary's returns to action tomorrow with a non-conference match in Bridgewater, Virginia against Bridgewater College at 1:00.
