Seahawks Down Virginia Union
Richmond, Va. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team kicked off the spring portion of their 2008-09 campaign with an 8-1 victory over Division II Virginia Union University in non-conference action Monday afternoon.
The Seahawks (4-2) swept all three doubles matches to own a 3-0 advantage heading into singles action. Freshmen Thomas Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) and Robbie Bourdon (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) remained undefeated on the season (3-0) with an 8-1 victory over seniors Wayne Motley (Richmond, Va.) and Emmanuel Sekyere (Richmond, Va.) at No. 3 doubles.
Hoesman and sophomore Jeff Levy (Rockville, Md./T.S. Wootton) both improved to 4-0 on the season as they won their respective singles matches. Hoesman handed Sekyere an 8-2 setback at No. 3 singles, while Levy posted an 8-1 triumph over sophomore Ramon Gray (Newport News, Va.) at No. 5 singles.
St. Mary's will return to action on Friday, March 6 when the Seahawks host the University of the District of Columbia at 2:00.
