Seahawks Roll Past Southern Virginia
St. Mary's City, Md. - After Stevenson University edged St. Mary's College of Maryland 5-4 earlier in the afternoon, the Seahawk men's tennis team bounced back with a 6-3 non-conference victory over Southern Virginia University Friday evening.
Today's triumph also gave the Seahawks (10-4) one more win than last season's 9-9 record. This was also the team's second victory over SVU this season as St. Mary's tallied a 7-2 win on September 20 in Buena Vista, Virginia.
The tandem of freshmen Thomas Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) and Robbie Bourdon (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) picked up St. Mary's only doubles win with an 8-6 triumph over freshman Thad Davis (Bloomfield, Iowa/Davis County) and Brandon Flood at No. 3 doubles. The duo is now 10-0 on the season.
Junior Kenny Nugent (Pocomoke, Md./Pocomoke) owns a team-best 11 wins after extending his win streak to five with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Devin Keaton at No. 4 singles.
St. Mary's returns to action tomorrow with a Capital Athletic Conference match in Dover, Delaware against Wesley College.
