Nugent Garners CAC Player-of-the-Week Honors

York, Pa. - Tom Byrnes, the Capital Athletic Conference commissioner, released the CAC tennis weekly honors Tuesday afternoon and Kenny Nugent became the second St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis player to be named CAC Player-of-the-Week for the week ending April 19.

Nugent set the school's single-season record for most wins with 15 as he finished his junior campaign with a 15-5 overall record (4-1 CAC).  The Pocomoke, Md. (Pocomoke HS) native surpassed previous mark of 13 victories set by Mike Clark '99 during the 1998-99 campaign as Clark finished with a 13-6 log.  His 15 wins were a team-high.

Nugent picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles against Salisbury's Michael Rubin before falling 4-6, 3-6 to York's Jeff Mansfield at No. 5 singles.  He regrouped with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Hood's Kenny Smith at the fifth singles flight.  The 5-11 junior closed out his season with a 2-6, 1-6 loss to York's Ryan Harvey at No. 6 singles.

St. Mary's ended the 2008-09 campaign with an 11-10 mark, just one win shy of matching the program's single-season mark for most wins of 12 set by the 1997-98 squad who finished with a 12-3 mark.
