Seahawk Men's Swimming Drops Meet to Washington College

St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swim team (1-4) would drop a non-conference meet to Washington College (2-3) Friday evening.

How It Happened

- Sophomore Colin Cassady (Phoenix, Md./Calvert Hall), first-year Peter Orban (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill), and junior Kieran Broder (Olney, Md./Good Counsel) would earn top honors for the Seahawks.

- Cassady would earn nine points in the 50 freestyle, clocking in at 21.86 for first place, while leading off the winning 400 freestyle relay team (3:19.50) of senior captains Andrew Braker (Olney, Md./Sherwood), Andrew Braun (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic), and Matt Walchuck (Middletown, Md./Middletown).

- Orban would lead St. Mary's in the 200 backstroke, finding the finish line at 2:01.92 for the gold medal.

- Broder would top the competition in the 200 breaststroke, owning a time of 2:15.74. He would also take home silver in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:06.11.

- St. Mary's would open the meet with a second-place finish in the 400 yard medley (3:39.99) behind the efforts of Orban, Broder, first-year Ryan Akhavan (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck), and Braker.

- Braker would score four points for the Seahawks in the 200 freestyle, finishing second with a time of 1:51.48, while Braun claimed third in 1:53.13.

- Walchuck would earn two individual silver medals for the Seahawks with a time of 10:14.28 in the 1,000 freestyle and a time of 4:57.01 in the 500 freestyle.

- Akhavan paced St. Mary's in the 200 butterfly with a third-place finish in 2:08.10 while Cassady took bronze in the 100 freestyle in 49.72.

- Orban, sophomore Reed Rhodes (Westminster, Md./Winter Mills), Akhavan, and junior Lucas Delgado (Bowie, Md./Gonzaga [D.C.]) would take bronze in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:29.86.

Up Next for the Seahawks

- The Seahawks will host Ferrum College and McDaniel College in a non-conference double-dual meet tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
