Seahawk Men's Swimming Drops One at No. 5 Johns Hopkins
Baltimore, Md. – Junior captain Billy DeBoissiere (Columbia, Md./Atholton) and sophomore Thor Petersen (Germantown, Md./Northwest) each won an event as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swim team (11-3) dropped a 117-73 decision at No. 5 Johns Hopkins University (5-0) Friday afternoon in non-conference action.
Petersen captured the 500 freestyle event in 4:57.35 while DeBoissiere claimed a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in 2:14.59. The St. Mary's 200 freestyle relay team ended the meet with a first-place finish while the 200 medley relay squad kicked off the competition with a third-place finish.
DeBoissiere finished second in the 1000 freestyle in 10:19.98 while senior Joe Kelly (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) followed up in fourth (10:57.67) and junior captain Chris Coghill (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) came in fifth (11:32.30).
Petersen took third in the 200 freestyle in 1:48.92 while first-year Dylan Cope (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral) placed fourth in 1:56.57. First-year Bobby Witkop (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) claimed fourth in the 50 freestyle in 23.87 and sophomore Ryan Wilson (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) rounded out the top five in 25.28.
Junior Cameron Hedquist (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) finished third in the 200 individual medley in 2:03.72 while senior Gabe Grace (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic) picked up a fifth-place finish in 2:10.09.
Witkop went third in the 100 butterfly in 55.76 while first-year Chris Carpino (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) came in fifth in 1:02.88. Hedquist placed third in the 100 freestyle in 50.00 while Coghill came in 54.03 for fifth.
Cope notched a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke in 57.04 while Grace claimed a fifth-place finish in 1:00.62.
St. Mary's will be back in the pool tomorrow (January 21) as the Seahawks travel to the Eastern Shore to resume Capital Athletic Conference action at Salisbury University. The meet is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start.
