Seahawk Men's Swimming Set 2 School Records as CAC Championship Meet Opens Up

Complete Day One Results

St. Mary's City, Md. – Senior captain Jackson Webb (Valley Lee, Md./Leonardtown) kicked off his final Capital Athletic Conference championship meet with a big splash as Webb notched two school records en route to a pair of All-CAC awards.  Thanks to solid swimming, the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swim team is currently third with 139 points as the first day of the 2011 CAC Men's and Women's Swimming Championships was put to bed Friday night.

After starting the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay as the anchor, Webb finished second for the first time in his career at the CAC championship meet in the 50 freestyle following two straight third-place finishes.  He was out-touched by six hundredths of a second by University of Mary Washington's junior Austin Clark (Springfield, Va./Texas Permian Basin).

Webb accomplished the second-place finish in the 50 free with a school record time of 21.43, knocking down Michael Preston '09 mark of 21.63 from 2009.

Webb then closed out the first day of competition in style by leading the Seahawks to a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay with a school record time of 3:34.59, shattering the 10-year old mark by over four seconds (3:38.54).  Current assistant coach Julio Zarate '04 was part of that 2001 medley relay record.

Joining Webb on the 400 medley relay were senior captain Nico Pinto (Lima, Peru), sophomores Billy DeBoissiere (Columbia, Md./Atholton) and Cameron Hedquist (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg).

Hedquist and DeBoissiere nearly had school records for the Seahawks.  Hedquist finished second in the 200 individual medley in 1:58.59, which is 32 hundredths of a second shy of the current record held by ZarateDeBoissiere broke University of Mary Washington's stronghold on the 500 freestyle as he came in third in 4:43.49, missing the school mark by less than a second.

First-year Thor Petersen (Germantown, Md./Northwest) notched an all-conference award as well as Petersen coming in behind Hedquist in 1:59.10 in the 200 IM.

Looking for its 17th overall and 11th straight conference title, Mary Washington is first in the team standings with 296.5 points after claiming gold in all five events.  Last year's CAC Men's Swimmer of the Year, senior Stephen Clendenin (Ashburn, Va.), recorded the night's only NCAA automatic qualifying time as Clendenin broke his own championship meet record in the 200 IM in 1:51.81.  The Eagles also notched an NCAA 'B' cut and CAC meet record in capturing the 400 medley relay.

TEAM STANDINGS: 1. Mary Washington 296.5, 2. York 154, 3. St. Mary's 139, 4. Salisbury 112, 5. Marymount 79.5, 6. Hood 59, 7. Frostburg State 53.
