St. Marys Drops First League Meet of the Season; DeBoissiere Sets School Record

St. Mary's City, Md. - The York (Pa.) College men's swim team posted a 135-70 Capital Athletic Conference triumph Saturday afternoon to hand St. Mary's College of Maryland its first conference loss of the season. One of the highlights for the Seahawks (4-2, 2-1 CAC) was freshman Billy DeBoissiere (Columbia, Md./Atholton) setting the school record in the 100 breaststroke, displacing a seven-year old mark.
DeBoissiere picked up two individual gold medals, starting with a first-place finish in the 1000 freestyle with his time of 10:11.80 before posting a 59.21 in the 100 breast to break the old record of 59.29 established by Alexander Klose '04 in 2002. He also swam the breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay to help St. Mary's to a first-place finish in the event in 1:41.09.
York (3-1, 3-1 CAC) captured seven of 11 events as six different Spartans recorded individual wins and the foursome of junior Tom DeCoursey (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West), sophomore Jack Gottschalk (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston), senior Clark Arnold (York, Pa./Northeastern), and junior Ben Hilt (Mt. Joy, Pa./Hempfield) captured the 200 free relay in 1:30.77.
Junior captain Jackson Webb (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) nabbed an individual win as well as Webb touched the wall first in the 50 freestyle in 22.43 while anchoring the first-place 200 medley relay. He also notched a third-place finish in the 100 butterfly in 56.27.
Freshman Jesse Stottlemyer (Hagerstown, Md./Smithsburg) swam the lead leg of the winning 200 medley relay while tallying a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke (57.01) and taking fourth in the 1000 freestyle (11:08.01).
Swimming the butterfly leg of the winning 200 medley relay, sophomore Joe Kelly (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) finished fourth in the 400 individual medley (4:45.98) and was the lead-off in the fourth-place 200 free relay.
The Seahawks will be back in the pool in December when St. Mary's competes in the annual Franklin & Marshall College Invitational on December 5-6 in Lancaster, Pa.
