St. Mary’s Rolls to Two Wins

St. Mary's City, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swim team remains undefeated on the young 2009-10 season with wins over Gallaudet University and Goucher College Saturday afternoon.

The Seahawks (4-0, 2-0 CAC) notched a 154-41 victory over Gallaudet (0-4, 0-3 CAC) and a 114-83 triumph over Goucher (1-3) while Goucher posted a 131-54 win over Gallaudet.

Freshman Billy DeBoissiere (Columbia, Md./Atholton) picked up two individual first-place finishes while helping St. Mary's 200 freestyle relay to the gold as the anchor.  DeBoissiere missed setting a school record in the 1000 freestyle by four seconds as he touched the wall in 10:14.72 while the record is 10:11.00 set by Joey Quase '09 in 2006.

DeBoissiere added his second first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in 59.46 which was .17 off the school mark of 59.29 set by Alexander Klose '04.  Junior captain Nico Pinto (Lima, Peru) followed DeBoissiere in the 100 breast as Pinto finished second in 1:07.74.

Joining DeBoissiere on the winning 200 free relay was junior captain Jackson Webb (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown), junior Aaron Page (Keene, N.H./Keene), and sophomore Joe Kelly (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) as the Seahawks swam a 1:33.66.

Page notched a first-place finish in the 200 individual medley in 2:10.86 while Webb was first in the 100 butterfly 56.83, just edging Goucher's Charles Rooney by .02.  Pinto nabbed an individual first-place finish in the 100 backstroke in 57.81.

The quartet of freshman Dirk Rousseau (Washington, D.C./St. John's College), freshman Chris Coghill (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick), freshman Logan Riley (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck), and junior Kalvin Day (Hagerstown, Md./N. Hagerstown) took second in the 200 medley relay in 1:59.05.

Kelly came in second in the 200 free in 1:58.83 while Webb was second in the 50 free in 23.08.  Page finished second in the 100 free in 52.05 while sophomore Ron Michael (Sykesville, Md./McDonogh) placed second in the 500 free in 5:30.11.

The Seahawks will be back in the pool next Saturday, November 14 as St. Mary's travels to Chestertown, Md. to take on Washington College in a non-conference dual meet at 1:00 pm.
