St. Marys Splits with Hood and Catholic

St. Mary's City, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swim team split its season-opener with Catholic University and Hood College Saturday afternoon as the Seahawks (1-1, 1-0 CAC) notched a 142-39 win over Hood but dropped a 115-90 decision to Catholic.
Sophomore Gabe Grace (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Tech) was a triple winner for St. Mary's as Grace captured the 200 IM in 2:08.85 as well as the 100 back in 58.01. He was also part of the first-place 200 medley relay team which posted a 1:44.09 to win the event.
Another multiple winner for the Seahawks was sophomore Aaron Page (Keene, N.H./Keene) who went 1.05.89 to take first in the 100 breast. Page was also a part of the winning 200 medley relay team.
Senior Joey Quase (Montgomery Village, Md./Good Counsel) placed second in the 1000 free with his time of 10:58.39. Quase was second in the 500 free as well in 5:22.99.
The defending 200 free conference champion, senior Michael Preston (Pasadena, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) placed second in the event in 1:51.89, just 1.39 behind Catholic's sophomore Brian Jones (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield). Preston also took second in the 100 free in 50.75, while being apart of the winning 200 medley relay.
Sophomore Jackson Webb (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) claimed second in the 50 free in 23.23.
Newcomer Troy Kent was second in the 100 fly in 57.13.
The Seahawks will be back in the pool next Saturday, November 15 when St. Mary's entertains non-conference foe, Washington (Md.) College at 1:00 in the ARC Aquatics Center.
