Richard Edgar brings a wealth of invaluable experience to the Seahawks' sideline as Edgar joins his father as a member of the men's soccer coaching staff in 2011.
Edgar gained international exposure as a member of the U-15 (2002-03) and U-17 (2003-05) United States national teams. He participated in the U-17 World Cup qualifying events in Costa Rica while competing in numerous tournaments for the U.S. team in Northern Ireland, Argentina, Paraquay, France, Brazil and Holland. During his two-and-a-half year stint with the U-17 squad, Edgar served as team captain.
He went on to lead a very accomplished career as a midfielder for the George Mason University Patriots. Edgar helped George Mason to a four-year record of 41-31-8, two NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship Tournament appearances (2006, 2008), and the 2008 CAA championship title. He tallied 14 points (5 G, 4 A) as Edgar started in 79 games, missing only one game his entire career.
Edgar garnered All-Rookie honors from the Colonial Athletic Association and Top Drawer Soccer in 2006 before earning All-CAA awards for his last three seasons, including a pair of second team nods in 2008 and 2009. He picked up second team NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region honors as a senior and was selected a nominee for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.
He excelled in the classroom as well, earning first team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America accolades in 2009 and winning the CAA Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year award two years in a row.
Edgar graduated from George Mason in 2010 with a bachelors in psychology.
He recently received invitations to tryout for DC United and Seattle Sounders of the Major League Soccer as well as Austin Aztex and Richmond Kickers of the United Soccer Leagues.
