Seahawk Men's Soccer and Frostburg State End in Scoreless Draw

Frostburg, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team capped off their two-game road trip with a scoreless double overtime draw Saturday night. St. Mary's (9-2-3, 2-1-1 CAC) posted a 0-0 tie with Frostburg State University (4-8-2, 1-2-1 CAC) in Capital Athletic Conference action, stretching its unbeaten streak to two.

How It Happened

  • The Seahawks dominated the game from the opening whistle, notching a 20-4 shot advantage as well as a 12-1 margin in corner kicks.
  • It was 6-1 in shots and 6-1 in corner kicks – both in favor of St. Mary's – in the first half but Joel Assal made three saves to keep the Seahawks off the scoreboard.
  • Frostburg's lone shot on goal came in the 25th minute but junior goalkeeper Patrick Paolini (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) handled it with ease.
  • Assal then turned away seven shots over the final 45 minutes of regulation to force overtime as the Seahawks outshot Frostburg, 10-2.
  • Juniors Brad Moore (Crofton, Md./South River) and Khalid Balogun (Bowie, Md./Bowie) each fired a shot on goal in the 91st and 98th minutes, respectively, in the first 10-minute extra period but Assal was able to deny them.
  • First-year defender Jacob Breslauer (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) took a shot in the 103rd minute but once again Assal was up to the challenge.

For Frostburg State

  • Scorers: None
  • Goalkeeper: Assal (13 saves, 0 goals allowed, 110:00)

Notes

  • Frostburg State retains the lead in the series history with a 13-5-2 record but the Seahawks own a 1-0-1 mark in the last two matchups.
