Washington, D.C. – Senior forward Chris Quamina (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) scored for the Seahawks in his final collegiate contest but it was not enough as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to Catholic University of America in St. Mary's 2011 season finale.
St. Mary's wrapped up its first campaign under head coach Alun Oliver with a 7-10 overall record, notching the most wins since an 8-9-1 mark in 2008.
Quamina gave the Seahawks an early 1-0 lead as he found the back of the net at 27:43 after collecting a feed from first-year forward Matthew Braun (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic). St. Mary's carried that 1-0 lead into intermission despite Catholic outshooting the Seahawks, 12-2, in the first half.
The Cardinals (13-3) exploded for four unanswered goals in the second stanza, scoring two in the first four-and-a-half minutes of the half. Junior forward Mike Brennan (Feasterville, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) paced Catholic in the win with a goal and an assist.
First-year Nate Ramsland (Catonsville, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) notched six saves in his first career start as the Cardinals finished with a 23-8 shot advantage. The Seahawks did edge Catholic, 4-3, in corner kicks.
