Scharfenberg, Payne Represent St. Mary’s on All-CAC Men’s Soccer Teams

York, Pa. - Sophomores Ted Scharfenberg (Holbrook, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) and Brian Payne (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) were selected to the 2009 All-Capital Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Teams as announced by league commissioner, Tom Byrnes, Tuesday afternoon.  Scharfenberg and Payne both earned a spot on the All-CAC Second Team.

Brian Payne Ted Scharfenberg In his sophomore campaign, Scharfenberg paced the Seahawks with team-highs of five goals, five assists, and 15 points.  The 6-2 forward, who played in all 17 games with 16 starts, tallied a career-high six points on two goals and two assists in a 9-0 blanking of Gallaudet University.  Scharfenberg scored twice in a 4-0 shutout of Bridgewater (Va.) College.

Despite missing eight games this season with injury, Payne was an integral part of St. Mary's central midfield in the contests that he did play in.  The 5-8 midfielder scored twice in the team's 3-2 overtime loss to Marymount (Va.) University.  He notched the game-winning goal in the Seahawks' 2-0 shutout victory.

St. Mary's finished the 2009 season at 4-13 overall with a 2-6 mark in conference action.
