St. Marys Mens Soccer Readies for CAC Quarterfinal
St. Mary's City, Md. - As the No. 5 seed in this year's Capital Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament, the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team will make the trek to Dover, Del. to take on fourth-seeded Wesley College in one of two CAC quarterfinal match-ups on Sunday, November 2 at 1:00.
Sunday's match-up marks a rematch of last year's first-round clash between St. Mary's (5-9-4, 3-3-2 CAC) and Wesley in Dover. The fourth-seeded Wolverines (10-5-2, 4-3-1 CAC) advanced to the CAC semifinal on penalty kicks as Wesley and the Seahawks ended in a 1-1 draw a year ago. Sunday's winner will face top-seeded, and the No. 2 team in the country, York (Pa.) College on Wednesday, November 5 in one of two semifinals.
This season, St. Mary's posted a 1-0 victory at Wesley on September 13 as junior forward Misha Simon (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) converted on a penalty kick in the 45th minute.
The championship game will be played on Saturday, November 8 at the site of the highest remaining seed. The CAC champion will garner the automatic bid to the 2008 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship Tournament.
