Hasbrouck took over the SMCM men's lacrosse program after two years as an assistant. In his first season as the Seahawk mentor, Hasbrouck led St. Mary's to the CAC semifinals as the No. 2 seed and coached two All-Americans along with six all-conference selections.
The Suffern, N.Y. native brought a wealth of experience to St. Mary's, having been a part of two storied men's lacrosse programs at Salisbury University and Division II powerhouse, Limestone College, for 13 years.
In his two seasons as a Seahawk assistant, Hasbrouck helped the team to a two-year mark of 19-14, including a 12-6 mark in 2007. He also helped coach two conference rookies of the year as the Seahawk offensive coordinator. Hasbrouck helped guide St. Mary's to an average of 10.53 goals per game in 2008, ranking 44th in Division III. In his first year, St. Mary's advanced to the Capital Athletic Conference title game.
Hasbrouck served as the head coach at Limestone for two seasons before joining the St. Mary's athletic staff in September of 2006. He led the Saints to a two-year mark of 26-7, winning the Deep South Conference title both years. Limestone finished as national runner-up in 2005 with a 15-2 mark. That same year, the Saints set NCAA Division II scoring records for goals (338) and points (520). Hasbrouck had five players earn All-America honors while garnering 2005 US Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division II National Coach of the Year honors.
Prior to coaching at Limestone, he was the head assistant at Salisbury for 11 seasons. Hasbrouck served as the offensive coordinator and during his tenure, the Sea Gulls played in six national championships and claimed five of them.
He also did a four-year stint as the head boys' lacrosse coach at Easton HS in Easton, Maryland, being named The Star Democrat's Coach of the Year in 1991 and 1993.
Hasbrouck graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in physical education in 1995 from Salisbury. Continuing his studies at Salisbury, he completed his master's in education in 1997.
J.M. Simpson returns for his second season on the Seahawk men's lacrosse coaching staff in 2010 as an assistant coach. Simpson brought Division I experience to the table as he spent the three seasons as the head coach at Marist College.
Along with his assistant coaching duties, the Kings Park, N.Y. native serves as the SMCM Intramurals coordinator.
His hiring reunited Simpson with one of his former coaches at Salisbury University as current St. Mary's head coach Chris Hasbrouck mentored Simpson during Hasbrouck's tenure as an assistant coach at Salisbury. He played for the Sea Gulls from 2001 to 2004 as a defensive short stick midfielder. After graduation, Simpson served as a Salisbury assistant coach for one year. He won three national championships (two as a player) and five (four as a player) straight Capital Athletic Conference titles while at Salisbury.
From 2006 to 2008, Simpson served as the head coach at Division I Marist in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and was also the director of club and intramural sports. During his three seasons at Marist, the Red Foxes totaled seven All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference selections, 18 MAAC All-Academic honorees and the 2007 Co-MAAC Rookie-of-the-Year.
Simpson was the Red Fox assistant four months prior to taking the head coach position at Marist in January right before the start of the 2006 season.
While at Marist, Simpson compiled a three-year record of 15-31 overall and a 12-12 mark in MAAC play. Marist led the nation in face-off percentage and paced the MAAC with nine selections to the All-Academic Team in 2008.
He led the Red Foxes to an appearance in the 2006 MAAC Tournament, concluding that season 6-9 overall and 4-4 in the MAAC. In 2007, Marist was 6-9 overall and tied for second in the MAAC with a 5-3 league record, but did not appear in the conference tournament due to a tiebreaker.
