St. Mary's City, Md. – St. Mary's College of Maryland head men's lacrosse coach Jason Childs announced Wednesday morning the hiring of Justin Gordon as the program's next assistant coach. Gordon, who starts August 15, will also serve as the Assistant Sports Information Director.
Childs expressed, "I am thrilled to welcome Justin Gordon to the men's lacrosse family. Justin brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program. He is a tireless recruiter who will help make us better instantly both on and off the field. Having competed and excelled in the Capital Athletic Conference, Justin will be able to guide all our players to being the very best in the CAC. We are beyond lucky to have him on staff and I am very much looking forward to getting to work with him."
The Baltimore, Maryland native is well-versed in the Capital Athletic Conference as Gordon played at York College of Pennsylvania (2010-2013) and then coached for two years at the University of Mary Washington.
"I would like to thank Scott Devine, Jim Cranmer, Nairem Moran, Jason Childs, and the rest of the hiring committee for this great opportunity. I'm looking forward to getting to work with the coaching staff and with the team. I realize the possibilities of a program such as this and I hope to help bring it to its full potential," stated Gordon.
Gordon arrives at St. Mary's following two years as an assistant coach at Mary Washington. As a member of the Eagles men's lacrosse program, he coordinated the team's defensive game plan. UMW ranked in the Top 5 in the conference in goals against average during his two-year tenure, including third in 2015 with an 8.44 GAA. Gordon also coached one all-conference defenseman in his first year with the Eagles.
He was an assistant coach at Community College of Baltimore County-Essex as well for the 2014 campaign, coaching two National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Americans and helping the Knights to the 2014 NJCAA Region XX championship title.
Gordon played one season at CCBC-Essex, earning All-NJCAA Region XX Second Team and All-Maryland JUCO Second Team honors in 2010 after the Knights reached the NJCAA national championship game. He then transferred to York (Pa.) to finish out his collegiate career. Gordon collected 94 ground balls and 32 caused turnovers in three years as a Spartan and picked up 2013 second team All-CAC honors.
He graduated from York in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in history.
