St. Mary's Men's Lacrosse Moves to Sixth Win in a Row
Dover, Del. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team remained undefeated in Capital Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon with a 12-5 league win at Wesley College. First-year attackman Conor Jordan (Rockville, Md./Rockville) paced the Seahawk offense with his second consecutive hat trick.
Senior attackman Patrick Mull (Fallston, Md./Fallston), who notched his 100th career assist in the win over Goucher College on April 3, contributed two goals and an assist for St. Mary's while junior midfielder Ben Love (Owings Mills, Md./McDonogh) and sophomore attackman Matt Tarrant (Mount Airy, Md./Urbana) each added two goals.
Senior attackman Joe Donato (Bellmore, N.Y.) put Wesley (3-6, 0-3 CAC) on the scoreboard first with an unassisted goal just 16 seconds in. The Seahawks responded with three straight, including a pair from Jordan, to won a 3-1 lead at the end of the first period.
Mull started the scoring in the second half before first-year attackman Jathan Mahaffey (Millersville, Md.) pulled Wesley within 4-2 at 7:15. Love, sophomore midfielder Will Lerch (Lothian, Md./Calverton), and Jordan all found the back of the net, including twice in 49 seconds, to send St. Mary's into halftime with a 7-2 advantage.
Mahaffey led the Wolverine attack with a hat trick while junior Patrick Lipari (Kings Park, N.Y.) chipped in a goal and an assist.
A 3-0 start to the third quarter by St. Mary's gave the Seahawks an eight-goal cushion before Mahaffey struck again at 1:19 to make it 10-3 heading into the final stanza. Goals by Lerch and sophomore attackman Eric Simon (North Potomac, Md./Quince Orchard) sandwiched a pair of Wesley scores to make the final 12-5.
Senior captain Albert Mitchell (Shrewsbury, Mass./Saint John's) continued his strong play at face-off X with 14-of-17 effort while scooping up a game-high 12 ground balls.
Senior Scott Marsh (Crofton, Md./South River) picked up 10 saves, including seven in the first half, and one ground ball as Marsh improved to 6-0 on the season. Senior Matt Ryan (Tinton Falls, N.J.) finished the game with 23 stops as the Seahawks outshot Wesley, 49-24.
The Seahawks will be back in action on Wednesday, April 10 when St. Mary's travels to Fredericksburg, Virginia to face No. 17 University of Mary Washington in Capital Athletic Conference action at 4:00 pm.
