St. Mary's City, Md. – The third-seeded St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team is advancing to its fourth straight Capital Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament semifinals as the Seahawks eliminated sixth-seeded Marymount (Va.) University with a 14-5 victory on a cold, soggy Sunday afternoon.
St. Mary's (10-5) will now face second-seeded Stevenson University (13-3) in semifinal action on Wednesday, April 25 at 7:00 pm in Owings Mills, Maryland. Wednesday's other semifinal contest will feature fifth-seeded York College of Pennsylvania (9-6) at top-seeded Salisbury University (17-0).
Junior attacker Patrick Mull (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and first-year Will Lerch (Lothian, Md./Calverton School) each tallied four points to pace the Seahawk offense. Lerch notched his third hat trick of the season and added an assist while Mull scored once and dished out three assists. Attackers John Dehm (Trumbull, Conn./Middlesex School [Mass.]) and Matt Tarrant (Mount Airy, Md./Urbana) and junior midfielder Taylor Cook (Hollywood, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) each contributed three points.
St. Mary's jumped out to a 4-0 in the first period as Lerch and Mull each collected a goal and an assist in the run. Marymount (5-11) avoided carrying a goose egg into the second quarter as senior midfielder Danny Carson (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) found the back of the net with 13 seconds left in the stanza.
The Seahawks extended their lead to 6-1 at 13:05 of the second period with goals from Lerch and first-year attacker Matt Tarrant (Mount Airy, Md./Urbana) in a 35-second span. Carson struck again at 6:19 to cut the lead to 6-2. Cook picked up one of his two goals on the day at 2:15 to send St. Mary's into halftime with a 7-2 advantage.
Carson and senior attacker David Huson (Long Valley, N.J./Morris Catholic) led the Marymount offense with two goals each.
Four straight goals to start the third quarter gave St. Mary's an 11-2 margin at 3:55. Twenty seconds later, Huson found the back of the net. Tarrant picked up a man-up goal off an assist by Cook with 25 ticks on the clock for a 12-3 Seahawk lead heading into the fourth period.

The Seahawks posted an 11-22 face-off effort as junior midfielder Albert Mitchell (Shrewsbury, Mass./Saint John's) won 11-of-19 face-offs and scooped up a game-high nine loose balls, allowing St. Mary's finish with a 38-30 margin in groundballs.
The Seahawk defense killed three Marymount extra-man opportunities while senior goalie Stu Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School) made 10 saves in 53 minutes. St. Mary's outshot the Saints, 47-28.
