Alexander Selected as Scholar All-American
Perry, N.Y. – Senior team captain Ryan Alexander (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) of the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team found himself on the 2010 USILA Scholar All-America Team as announced by John Spring, executive director of the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association, on Wednesday afternoon.
Alexander, who will be stepping on a collegiate lacrosse field for the last time at Friday's 2010 USILA/LaxWorld Division III North/South Senior All-Star Game, is one of two men's lacrosse players to represent the Capital Athletic Conference on the Scholar All-America Team. Joining Alexander is long-stick midfielder Connor Burgasser of Salisbury University.
Notching a 3.06 cumulative GPA, Alexander graduated from St. Mary’s College on May 15 with a B.A. in economics.
A four-time conference all-star and the 2007 CAC Rookie of the
Year, Alexander made his first career appearance
on the All-CAC Second Team last month. The 6-0 midfielder
finished as the team's second-leading scorer with a second-best 22
goals and third-best 13 assists despite having broken his hand on
April 7. He notched at least one goal in five out of the six
games since breaking his hand. Alexander
scored one man-up and one man-down goal while adding 21 ground
balls and five caused turnovers.
Alexander wrapped up his stellar Seahawk career with 144 career points on 98 goals and 46 assists. Thirteen of his 98 goals were man-up scores while five were game-winners. He also added 112 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers, playing 61 games with 27 starts.
During Alexander's four-year tenure, the Seahawks recorded a four-year mark of 37-27 (20-9 CAC), advancing to the CAC championship game in 2007 and the league semifinals in 2009 and 2010.
St. Mary's notched its first 10-win season since 2007 as the Seahawks went 10-6 (5-2 CAC) for the 2010 campaign. St. Mary's was also undefeated at Seahawk Stadium, posting a perfect 7-0 mark.
About USILA Scholar All-America: In 1989 the USILA Scholar All-America Program was established to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II and III. The Scholar All-Americans are recognized at the annual USILA All-America Awards Reception.
