Alexander, Henry to Play in North/South Senior All-Star Game Today
Perry, N.Y. – Senior team captains Ryan Alexander (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) and Ryder Henry (Washington, D.C./St. John's College) will both be stepping on a collegiate lacrosse field for the last time this Friday afternoon as Alexander and Henry will be representing the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team at the 2010 USILA/LaxWorld Division III North/South Senior All-Star Game being hosted by Goucher College in Towson today at 3:00 pm.
Alexander and Henry are part of a 30-man roster representing the South and will be under the mentorship of Goucher's head coach, Kyle Hannan. The North and South rosters were released the night of Monday, May 24 by John Spring, executive director of the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.
Alexander and Henry are two of five men's lacrosse players to represent the Capital Athletic Conference at the North/South game. Joining the Seahawks are long-stick midfielder Eric Fernandez of Marymount (Va.) University as well as attackman Steve Kazimer and goalie Geoff Hebert of Stevenson University.
A four-time conference all-star and the 2007 CAC Rookie of the
Year, Alexander made his first career appearance
on the All-CAC Second Team last month. The 6-0 midfielder
finished as the team's second-leading scorer with a second-best 22
goals and third-best 13 assists despite having broken his hand on
April 7. He notched at least one goal in five out of the six
games since breaking his hand. Alexander
scored one man-up and one man-down goal while adding 21 ground
balls and five caused turnovers.
Alexander wrapped up his stellar Seahawk career with 144 career points on 98 goals and 46 assists. Thirteen of his 98 goals were man-up scores while five were game-winners. He also added 112 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers, playing 61 games with 27 starts.
Last month, Henry garnered his second consecutive
first team All-CAC selection as the 6-3 defenseman paced the
Seahawks for the second season in a row in caused turnovers with 25
in 2010. Starting all 16 games, he also ranked fourth on the
team in ground balls with 37 while anchoring a defensive unit which
allowed 9.25 goals per game.
Henry finished up his three-year Seahawk career with 79 ground balls, 44 caused turnovers and one assist in 39 games played with 26 starts.
During Alexander and Henry's tenure, the Seahawks recorded a four-year mark of 37-27 (20-9 CAC), advancing to the CAC championship game in 2007 and the league semifinals in 2009 and 2010.
St. Mary's notched its first 10-win season since 2007 as the Seahawks went 10-6 (5-2 CAC) for the 2010 campaign. St. Mary's was also undefeated at Seahawk Stadium, posting a perfect 7-0 mark.
