Dickinson Nips Seahawks at Bullis School

Potomac, Md. - Dickinson College edged St. Mary's College of Maryland, 7-6, in non-conference men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at the Bullis School.

Senior attackman Ted Sirvaitis (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) paced the Red Devils (2-0) in scoring with a hat trick while sophomore midfielder Sam Abramson (Alexandria, Md./Potomac) added two helpers and a goal.

Goals by Sirvaitis and senior midfielder Chris Dodson (Bethesda, Md./Landon) gave Dickinson a 2-1 advantage after one period of play.  The Red Devil defense nearly shutout St. Mary's in the first until senior midfielder Ryan Alexander (Laurel, Md./Pallotti) finally put his squad on the board with a man-up goal with 42 seconds left, converting a pass from junior attackman Dennis Rosson (Severna Park, Md./Severn).

The Seahawks (0-2) were indeed shutout in the second quarter as Sirvaitis scored twice to carry a 3-0 run, giving Dickinson a 5-1 lead at halftime.

Alexander finished as the Seahawks' leading scorer with a hat trick while Rosson contributed a goal and two assists.

The tables turned in the third quarter as St. Mary's stepped up its defensive front, holding Dickinson scoreless and tacking on two more behind goals from Alexander and red-shirt first-year Jake Wilhelm (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis).

The Seahawks outscored DC in the last stanza with scores by Alexander, Rosson, and sophomore attackman JP Lennon (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's); however, the Red Devils were successful in holding on for the one-point win.

St. Mary's first-year midfielder Albert Mitchell (Shrewsbury, Mass./Saint John's) dominated face-offs, winning 11-of-17 for a .647 percentage.  Mitchell also scooped up a game-high seven ground balls helping to lead the Seahawks to a 33-23 advantage in ground balls.

SMC outshot the Red Devils, 42 to 37, while junior goalie Stu Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's) turned away 13 shots.

Senior goalie Tyler Magann (Easton, Pa./Hill) nabbed 19 saves to preserve the Dickinson victory.

The Seahawks return to action next Saturday, March 6 as St. Mary's travels to Lancaster, Pa. to take on Franklin & Marshall College at 3:00 pm.
