DiPasquale, Alexander Notch All-America Honors

Perry, N.Y. - Late Tuesday night, United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) executive director, John Spring, announced the 2009 USILA Division III All-America teams.  Team captains Marc DiPasquale (Fallston, Md./Boys' Latin) and Ryan Alexander (Laurel, Md./Pallotti) were both honorable mention selections.

In the 36-year history of the St. Mary's men's lacrosse program, 10 Seahawks have earned 11 All-America citations.  This is the first time since 2006 that St. Mary's has had multiple All-Americans on the list.  In 2006, Cyrus Albertson, Mike Alcamo, and Dave Mueller were all honorable mention.

DiPasquale and Alexander will be guests of the USILA at the 2009 USILA All-American Awards Reception at the Boston Marriott Copley Place in Boston on Saturday, May 23.

DiPasquale This is DiPasquale's first-ever All-America nod after being named an Inside Lacrosse/Face-Off Yearbook Preseason All-American as a sophomore, junior, and senior.  The 5-8 face-off specialist is a two-time All-Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) First Team selection (2008, 2009), while having made the second team in 2007.  For the second consecutive season, DiPasquale led the squad in ground balls with 71 loose ball pick-ups.  He also added a goal and five assists as an everyday starter.  DiPasquale registered a .589 (176-299) face-off percentage this season, including a perfect 17-of-17 in St. Mary's 17-2 win at Hood.

For his career, DiPasquale notched a .671 (842-of-1255) face-off percentage as well as 16 points on five goals and 11 assists.  He also scooped up 315 ground balls.  In his first years as a Seahawk, DiPasquale finished in the top 5 in Division III in face-off percentage, including being No. 1 in 2008 with a .695 (226-325) face-off percentage.

Alexander The 2007 CAC Rookie of the Year, Alexander is a three-time All-CAC First Team pick.  The 6-0 midfielder Alexander finished his junior campaign third in scoring with 32 points on 21 goals and 11 assists.  He scored three man-up goals and one game-winner, while scooping up 29 loose balls and causing six turnovers.  In a 9-2 win over Dickinson, Alexander matched a career-high with three assists, while registering a hat trick three times this season.

In three years, Alexander has registered 109 points on 76 goals and 33 assists.

St. Mary's ended the 2009 campaign with an 8-7 (5-2 CAC) record.  The Seahawks finished second in the conference standings after notching an 11-10 victory over No. 5 Salisbury University - St. Mary's first win over the Sea Gulls since a 13-12 overtime win on April 5, 1977.
