Nick Wilson starts his fifth season on the Seahawk sidelines and second as the Associate Head Coach in 2011-12. Wilson was named Associate Head Coach last season following his tireless efforts for the program on and off the court. Since joining St. Mary’s in 2007, the Seahawks have won an average of 23 games, been ranked in the Top 25 for four straight years, reached the Sweet 16 twice and the Elite 8 last season.
Wilson has brought many positive contributions and additions to the program. He is responsible for numerous aspects of the program, including overall team defense, advanced scouting of opponents, offensive skill development with both post and perimeter players as well as practice and game preparation. Wilson is also involved in community outreach and fundraising through his position as director of the Chris Harney Basketball School.
He works primarily with the St. Mary’s defense and coordinates advanced scouting of opponents. Over the past three seasons, the Seahawks have ranked in the top three in the Capital Athletic Conference in steals, scoring defense, three-point field goal percentage, and field goal percentage defense.
As director of the Chris Harney Basketball School, Wilson coordinates the Seahawk basketball camps and clinics throughout the year. Occuring year-round, these clinics and camps allow the Seahawks an opportunity to get involved in the surrounding community. Wilson also coordinates the annual Sunday Youth Basketball League of Southern Maryland Mid-Winter Tournament, a youth basketball event which is hosted at the College.
Prior to St. Mary's, Wilson served as the junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant at Calvert Hall College HS in Baltimore under legendary coach Mark Amatucci. A number of Wilson’s former student-athletes have gone on to compete at the collegiate level including current Seahawk, Kyle Wise.
He was the boys basketball head coach at Stemmers Run Middle School in Essex from 2004 to 2006 before arriving at Calvert Hall. While at Stemmers Run, Wilson instituted the "Middle School to McDaniel" program in 2005 as a tool to inspire his players to pursue a college education. The program included academic tutoring and basketball drill sessions with athletes and coaches from McDaniel College as well as Saturday trips to the McDaniel campus.
Wilson served as a student assistant for the men's basketball program at Towson University for five seasons (1999-2004). He assisted with individual skill improvement as well as strength & conditioning workouts for perimeter and post players while helping the coaching staff with film exchange, scouting, game stats, and team travel plans. Wilson also served as the video coordinator and was responsible for the Tigers' student managers.
He earned a bachelor of science in physical education from Towson in May of 2004 and then completed a master of science in athletic coaching education at West Virginia University in May of 2007. He is currently a physical education and health teacher at Patuxent HS in Lusby.
Wilson is married to Katie Kuhn and the couple resides in Saint Leonard with their daughter, Grace.
