York, Pa. – Senior captain Delaszo Smith (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) was the lone representative for the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team on the 2017 All-Capital Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Team as announced by Assistant Commissioner Tim Mowrer on Tuesday afternoon. Smith earned a spot on the Second Team.
Smith is picking up his second straight all-conference award after earning second team honors last season as well. A two-year team captain, he started all 26 games in 2016-17.
He finished second in the conference in free throw percentage with 84.3-percent while ranking seventh in steals per game with a 1.5 average. The 6-1 guard also owned the CAC's ninth-best scoring average with 13.6 points per game.
Smith notched 17 double-digit scoring performances, including three 20-point games, and led the team in scoring eight times. He tallied season-bests of 26 points behind a season-high 10 free throws made in a victory over Greensboro College on November 27.
He garnered CAC Player of the Week honors on November 28 after guiding St. Mary's to a 2-0 week with averages of 21.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.5 three-pointers, and 1.5 steals per contest. For the week, Smith shot 40.7% from the floor, including 50% from behind the three-point line, and 94.1% at the free throw line.
Smith finishes his three-year career at St. Mary's with 878 points (11.4 ppg) and 250 rebounds (3.2 rpg) in 77 games played. He shot 43.7-percent from the field, including 38.2-percent from downtown. In addition, Smith shot 83.2-percent from the free throw line. He also totaled 143 assists, 98 steals, and 15 blocks.
St. Mary's finished this year's campaign with a 13-13 (8-10 CAC) overall record and locked up the No. 5 seed in the 2017 CAC Men's Basketball Championship Tournament.
