York, Pa. – Junior LaVonte Sanders (Upper Marlboro, Md./Wise) picked up his first career Capital Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week honor as Sanders earned the honor for the week ending January 29 as announced by Assistant CAC Commissioner Tim Mowrer on Monday afternoon.
The 6-3 swingman was named the CAC Player of the Week after averaging 17.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in a 2-0 conference week for St. Mary's College of Maryland.
Sanders began the week with season-bests of 19 points and three blocks while also grabbing five rebounds in an 86-78 home win over Wesley College on January 25.
He followed up that performance with 15 points and a game-high nine boards in an 85-63 home triumph against Marymount (Va.) University.
Sanders shot 52.4% (11-for-21) from the field for the week and notched 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per contest. The two wins helped the Seahawks split the season series with Wesley and Marymount and keep them in the hunt for a playoff spot.
He currently ranks eighth in the league in rebounding with a 6.5 average while owning the ninth-best field goal percentage at 47.4-percent.
St. Mary's returns to action on Wednesday, February 1 as the Seahawks travel to York College of Pennsylvania (12-7, 7-5 CAC) for a CAC matchup at 8:00 p.m.
