York, Pa. – Sophomore Nick LaGuerre (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) was selected as the Capital Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week for the week ending January 6 as announced by conference commissioner, Tom Byrnes, Monday afternoon. LaGuerre shares this week's honor with Wesley College's Paul Reynolds.
LaGuerre garnered the weekly award after averaging 21.3 points over three games for the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team and finishing the week 25-for-33 (75.8%) from the field, including 9-for-15 (60%) from long range.
The 6-2 guard was named MVP of the Morris Cregger New Year's Invitational hosted by Roanoke College after LaGuerre averaged 27.0 points, 6.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.5 steals in leading St. Mary's to the tournament title. He shot 78.6% (22-for-28) from the field, including 7-of-11 from downtown, for the tournament.
LaGuerre exploded for a career-high 36 points in a 99-69 win over Huntingdon College in the opening round of the Invitational. He finished the game 14-of-18 from the field, including connecting on 5-of-8 from downtown. LaGuerre notched career-highs of seven assists, five steals and five three-pointers as well.
He followed that up with 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting and added five assists, two steals and a block in the championship game as the Seahawks posted an 82-72 win over host Roanoke. LaGuerre ended the week with his first career double-double in a 96-89 conference win at Frostburg State University. He put up 10 points and dished a career-best 11 assists as St. Mary's (14-1, 3-0 CAC) remained undefeated in league action.
He currently leads the conference in three-point field goal percentage with 53.8% while ranking second in steals with a 2.3 average. LaGuerre is also third in assists (3.7 per game) and blocks (1.0 per game).
The Seahawks will be back in action on Saturday, January 12 as St. Mary's travels to Dover, Delaware to take on Wesley College in conference action at 4:00 pm.
