Griffin Signs with Sports Management Worldwide

Linthicum Heights, Md. - When the 13th-ranked Seahawks of St. Mary's College of Maryland made their second run to the NCAA Division III "Sweet 16" last March, much of its success is owed to head coach Chris Harney and his scoring threat from the backcourt, senior combo guard Camontae Griffin (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar).

The 5-9, 160 lbs. economics major now has his sights on the next level.  With his undergraduate eligibility exhausted, the All-Capital Athletic Conference and Division III standout contacted Sports Management Worldwide, a sports agency headquartered in Portland, Oregon, for representation.

Edgar Velez, an agent advisor from SMWW in Dallas-Ft. Worth, Texas, answered the call and last Wednesday, April 7, he was on a plane to Baltimore to meet Griffin.  On Thursday, Griffin officially became an SMWW client at a hotel lobby in Linthicum.

Griffin, a Baltimore native and a product of basketball powerhouse Dunbar High School, was part of the 2003 and 2004 Maryland state championship teams.  He made his mark in his senior season with St. Mary's (Md.), averaging 21.6 points per game (ranked No. 17 in NCAA Division III).  His career-high 51 points came at last year's Pride of Maryland NCAA Division III Men's Basketball State Tournament against Hood College.
