Harney Voted CAC Coach of the Year; Franz, Griffin Earn First Team Nods

York, Pa. - St. Mary's College of Maryland's fifth-year head men's basketball coach Chris Harney was voted by his peers as the 2010 Capital Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Coach of the Year as league commissioner, Tom Byrnes, released the 2010 all-star teams Tuesday afternoon.  Guards Alex Franz (Catonsville, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) and Camontae Griffin (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) both earned spots on the All-CAC First Team for the second consecutive season.

Harney became just the second Seahawk mentor to earn the conference's coach of the year award as Brock Kantrow nabbed the honor in 2003.  In five seasons, he has mentored St. Mary's (24-3) to two NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship appearances and a pair of CAC championship titles.  Harney's career record currently stands at 89-47 (50-28 CAC) and to date, he has coached three players to seven all-conference selections.

Alex Franz Coming off the program's third CAC championship title, Franz and Griffin have helped to lead the Seahawks to a two-year record of 45-8 (28-4 CAC) and back-to-back conference regular-season titles.  St. Mary's will be making its second NCAA tournament appearance this weekend as the Seahawks host first- and second-round games Friday-Saturday, March 5-6.

Camontae Griffin The Division III leader in steals with a 3.6 average, Franz started all 27 games and finished second in scoring for the second straight year with 13.3 points per game.  The 6-1 junior also led the team and the conference with 157 assists, good for a 5.8 average and 18th in Division III.  Franz paced the team in rebounding as well with 5.4 rebounds per game.  He also ranks first in the league in assist/turnover ratio with 1.9.

The conference's leading scorer, Griffin averaged 21.6 points per game to rank 19th in Division III.  As a starter in all 27 games, he finished second on the team and in the CAC with 56 steals (2.1 spg).  The 5-9 senior ranked among the top 5 conference players in free throw percentage as well, owning the third-best percentage at .842.  Griffin tallied a school record 51 points in leading the Seahawks to their second consecutive Pride of Maryland title.
