Griffin Picks Up Multiple Player of the Week Honors
St. Mary's City, Md. - Camontae Griffin (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) earned player of the week selections from both the Capital Athletic Conference and PrestoSports/Pride of Maryland for the week ending February 21 after Griffin helped No. 17 St. Mary's College of Maryland to its second consecutive CAC regular-season title with four straight wins this past week. This is Griffin's fifth selection this season as a CAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week and fourth selection by PrestoSports/Pride of Maryland.
The 5-9 senior guard averaged 17.5 points, 4.3 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.3 steals in leading the Seahawks to four wins as St. Mary's clinched the CAC regular-season title and top seed in the CAC tournament for the second-straight year. He was SMC's leading scorer in three of four games and had just five turnovers in four games.
Griffin drained 22 points and matched his season-high with five assists in a showdown for first place against Wesley College as the Seahawks posted a 75-73 victory. In less than two seasons, he reached the 1,000 career point plateau in Tuesday's win over Wesley.
Griffin added a 20-point performance at Gallaudet University Wednesday night and then tallied 14 points in each weekend win against York (Pa.) College and University of Mary Washington.
The top-seeded Seahawks will host the CAC semifinals on Thursday, February 25 and will face the winner of tomorrow's first-round game between No. 4 seed Hood College and No. 5 seed Marymount (Va.) University. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm on Thursday.
