St. Marys Ranked No. 18 in D3hoops.com
Minneapolis, Minn. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team moved up two spots to No. 18 in the Week 10 edition of the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll following their 91-82 overtime win at Christopher Newport University last week.
The top three teams remain the same in this week's poll for Division III men's basketball through games of Sunday, February 7. Top-ranked Guilford College retained 23 (of 25) first-place votes while No. 2 Williams College picked up a No. 1 vote and the other vote went to defending national champion, Washington University (Mo.).
This week, junior guard Alex Franz (Catonsville, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) moved up one spot in steals per game, ranking second in the nation with a conference-leading 3.7 average. BJ McGill of St. Vincent College still maintains a hold on Division III's top spot with 3.8 steals per game to lead the nation. Franz jumped six spots to now rank 18th in the country with a league-best 5.7 assists per game.
The Capital Athletic Conference's leading scorer, senior guard Camontae Griffin (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) climbed four spots to No. 10 in the country with his 22.4 points per game. Griffin owns the second-best free throw percentage in the conference at 85.7% (42nd in Division III) while ranking second as well in steals with a 2.4 average (46th in Division III).
As a team, St. Mary's (17-3, 9-2 CAC) ranks 16th in Division III in won-lost percentage (.850) while ranking 21st in steals per game with a conference-best 10.8 average. Ranking 31st in the country in scoring margin, the Seahawks beat their opponents by a league-leading +10.8 points.
St. Mary's will put its home court advantage to the test this week as the Seahawks entertain Wesley College on Thursday at 8:00 pm and Hood College on Saturday at 4:00 pm. SMCM has won 16 straight regular-season games at the Athletics & Recreation Center Arena since its last home loss on January 30, 2008.
