Griffin Named Pride of Maryland Player of the Week for Second Time this Season
Rockville, Md. - Camontae Griffin (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) picked up his second PrestoSports/Pride of Maryland Player of the Week selection, earning the honor for the week ending January 31 after helping the nationally-ranked St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team to a pair of league wins over Marymount (Va.) University and Stevenson University.
Griffin averaged 20.0 points in 27.5 minutes as
the No. 20 Seahawks (16-3) rebounded from last Saturday's loss at
Salisbury University with an 84-61 win over Marymount (Va.) and a
78-54 victory at Stevenson.
The senior guard started the week with a game-high 22 points versus
Marymount on 8-of-18 shooting while going 4-for-4 from the free
throw line.
He ended the Seahawks' 2-0 week with a game-best 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting while dishing out a season-high five assists.
For the week, Griffin was 15-of-32 from the floor, including 4-of-9 from downtown, and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe.
Griffin currently leads the Capital Athletic Conference in scoring with 21.7 points per game while ranking second in steals with a 2.4 average. He also owns the third-best free throw percentage at 84.8% while being 14th with 2.3 assists per game.
The Seahawks will be back in action tonight as St. Mary's braves the weather to venture to Newport News, Va. to take on Christopher Newport University in non-conference action at 7:30 pm.
