St. Mary’s Drops out of Top 20

Minneapolis, Minn. - With their loss to Salisbury University this past Saturday, the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team fell out of the top 20, dropping seven spots to No. 23 in the Week 8 edition of the D3hoops.com Top 25 as announced Tuesday afternoon.

Junior guard Alex Franz (Catonsville, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) remained third in the nation in steals per game with a conference-leading 3.8 steals average for the second straight week.  BJ McGill of St. Vincent College averages 4.2 steals per game to lead the nation.  Franz is ranked 23rd in the country with a CAC-best 5.7 assists per game.

Although their consecutive win streak was broken at Salisbury, the No. 23 Seahawks (14-3, 7-2 CAC) will look to extend their regular-season home win streak tomorrow against Marymount (Va.) University at 8:00 pm.  St. Mary's has won 15 straight regular-season contests at home, dating back to its last regular-season home loss on January 30, 2008 - a 72-70 setback to Marymount.

As a team, St. Mary's ranks 31st in Division III in steals per game with a conference second-best 10.4 average.  The Seahawks are also ranked 32nd in three-point field goal defense, holding opponents to a league-leading 28.9- three-point field goal percentage.

Senior guard Camontae Griffin (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) moved up two spots to 15th in the country with a league-best 21.9 points per game.  Griffin is second in the conference as well with an 85.6 free throw percentage.
