No. 20 St. Mary’s College of Maryland returned to its winning ways on Tuesday afternoon as the Seahawks (8-2) halted their two-game losing skid with a 90-76 non-conference victory over Alfred University in their second and final game at the St. John Fisher College Classic.

St. John Fisher College built a 54-35 halftime lead and never looked back as the Cardinals handed the No. 20 St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s basketball team its second straight loss by a 97-80 margin in non-conference action Monday night in the St. John Fisher College Classic.

The Baruch College men’s basketball team used a 16-7 run at the start of the second half to overcome a seven-point halftime deficit and hand No. 14 St. Mary’s College of Maryland a 73-54 setback Saturday afternoon for the Seahawks first loss of the season.

The D3hoops.com Division III Top 25 Week 2 Poll was released by Pat Coleman of D3hoops.com this afternoon and the St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s basketball moved up four spots to break the Top 15 for the first time ever by earning the No. 14 spot with 281 points.

Junior guard Camontae Griffin poured in 25-second half points to finish the night with a season-high 31 points and help the No. 18 St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s basketball team avoid the upset with a 76-67 win over Marymount (Va.) University Saturday evening in Capital Athletic Conference action.

D3hoops.com released the first Division III Top 25 of the 2008-09 Tuesday morning and the St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s basketball broke the Top 20 for the first time ever by earning the No. 18 spot on the poll.

The tournament MVP, junior guard Camontae Griffin (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) poured in a game- and season-best 28 points to lead the St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s basketball team to the Fourth Annual Provident Bank Pride of Maryland Division III Men’s Basketball Scholarship Tournament title with a come-from-behind 84-81 victory over Johns Hopkins University Sunday evening.

Junior guard Camontae Griffin and senior center Alex Irmer each scored over 20 points to aide the Seahawk offense.
