Griffin Picks Up Third PrestoSports/Provident Pride Player-of-the-Week
Rockville, Md. - For the third time this season, junior Camontae Griffin (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) of the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team collected his third PrestoSports/Provident Pride Player-of-the-Week citation for the week ending February 15.
Griffin also garnered the weekly citation on December 1 after being named the MVP of the Provident Pride of Maryland Division III Men's Basketball Scholarship Tournament and on January 19 after averaging 26.0 points in a 1-1 week for the Seahawks (20-4).
The 5-9 guard led St. Mary's to the top of the Capital Athletic Conference standings with a 2-0 record this past week as Griffin averaged 28.5 points and shot 51.3 percent from the floor.
He was one point shy of matching his season-high with 30 points on 11-of-22 shooting, including 4-of-7 from downtown, in a 56-53 win at the University of Mary Washington.
Griffin closed out the week with 27 points on 9-of-17 shooting in an 84-74 victory at Gallaudet University.
For the week, he shot 45.5 percent from long range as well as 75.0 percent from the charity stripe. Griffin also averaged 3.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 steals.
He is currently second in the CAC in scoring (20.6 ppg), fifth in free throw percentage (78.7%), sixth in steals (1.8 spg), ninth in both assists (3.0 apg) and assist/turnover ratio (0.8), 12th in three-point field goal percentage (35.6%), and 14th in field goal percentage (48.2%).
St. Mary's will be back in action this Saturday, February 21 as the Seahawks battle Wesley College for the top seed in the upcoming CAC Tournament which begins on February 24. Tip-off is set for 4:00.
