Franz Named Player-of-the-Week by Two Organizations

St. Mary's City, Md. - Alex Franz (Catonsville, Md.) became the second St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball player to be named the player-of-the-week by both the Capital Athletic Conference and the PrestoSports/Provident Pride organizations for the week ending February 8.  The 6-1 sophomore guard averaged 15.0 points as Franz led the second-place Seahawks to three wins, notching league wins over Salisbury University, Hood College, and York (Pa.) College.

Franz started the week with 17 points, seven assists, and seven steals in a 79-64 win at Salisbury.  He followed up with 14 points and a game-high six helpers in an 84-63 win over Hood.

The Cardinal Gibbons HS product ended the week with a double-double of 14 points and a career-high 13 assists in this past Saturday's 88-79 victory over York.

He finished the week shooting 53.3 percent from the field and 76.9 percent from the free throw line, while averaging 8.7 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.0 steals.

Franz currently leads the conference in both assists (5.4) and steals (2.7) as well as in assist/turnover ratio (1.5).

St. Mary's boasts an 18-4 overall record, including an 11-2 CAC mark, as the Seahawks head into their mid-week match-up at the University of Mary Washington.  Tip-off is set for 8:00 Wednesday night.
