Franz Selected Player-of-the-Week by PrestoSports

St. Mary's City, Md. - Alex Franz (Catonsville, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) became the second St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball player to be named the player-of-the-week by the PrestoSports/Provident Pride organization for the week ending January 11.

Franz The 6-0 sophomore guard averaged 16.0 points in a 2-0 week for the Seahawks, posting a pair of Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) wins over Salisbury University and Hood College.

Franz started the week with a game-high 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting, six rebounds, and two steals in a 63-52 win over Salisbury.  He followed that up with 12 points, a season-high seven assists, and six boards as St. Mary's notched a 92-72 road victory against Hood.

He finished the week with a .545 field goal percentage, an .857 free throw percentage, and a 6.0 rebounding average.

Franz currently ranks in the Top 10 in several categories in the conference, including leading the league in both assists (4.5 apg) and steals (2.8 spg).  He is also second in assist/turnover ration with 1.3, ninth in free throw percentage (.732), and 10th in rebounding with a 5.9 average.  Franz is 14th in field goal percentage (.456) and 15th in scoring with 12.7 points per game as well.

The Catonsville, Md. native has helped the Seahawks to an 11-2 overall record, the program's best-ever start to a campaign.  The defending CAC Champions will put their undefeated 4-0 conference mark to the test tomorrow, January 14 when St. Mary's takes on York (Pa.) College on the road at 8:00.
