Griffin Notches D3hoops.com Honors
Sterling, Va. - St. Mary's College of Maryland junior Camontae Griffin (Baltimore, Md.) was named to the 2009 D3hoops.com All-Middle Atlantic Region as announced Thursday.
The 5-9 guard helped lead the Seahawks to a 21-5 overall record as
well as the program's first-ever conference regular-season title
when St. Mary's finished atop of the league standings with a 14-2
mark in the Capital Athletic Conference. This is
Griffin's second postseason honor
for the 2008-09 season as he was voted to the All-CAC First Team at
the beginning of March.
In his first year with the Seahawks, Griffin led St. Mary's in scoring with a conference second-best 20.4 points per game. He was second on the team with 74 assists and 43 steals as he started 25 games. Griffin ranked fifth in the CAC in both free throw percentage with 78.2 percent and steals with a 1.7 average, 10th in assists with 3.0 per game and assist/turnover ratio with 0.8, and 15th in three-point field goal percentage with 34.1 percent.
He tallied a career-high 31 points in a win over Marymount (Va.) University on December 6. Twice, Griffin dished out seven assists, while picking five pockets in the January 17 win over the University of Mary Washington.
The Dunbar H.S. product was picked as the PrestoSports/Pride of Maryland Player-of-the-Week three times and the CAC Player-of-the-Week twice.
