Lesesne Named Third Team All-Region
Sterling, Va. - For the second time in his three-year career with the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team, Tyson Lesesne (Edgewood, Md./Edgewood) earned a spot on the 2008 D3hoops.com All-Middle Atlantic Region Third Team as announced by the folks at D3hoops.com on Wednesday.
A three-time All-Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) selection, Lesesne was an all-region third team pick as a sophomore in 2006. He leaves St. Mary's as the program's second all-time leading scorer with 1,589 points, coming in behind Brandon Jones ‘02 who finished with a four-year total of 1,732.
The senior tri-captain helped St. Mary's (19-12) advance to the NCAA Division III Sweet 16 in their first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament in school history. Lesesne was also part of the program's second CAC title with an 82-72 triumph over second-seeded University of Mary Washington as the fourth seed in the championship game on March 1 to earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. St. Mary's appearance in the CAC Championship was the first since the Seahawks won the inaugural championship back in 1991.
Lesesne led the team in scoring for the third straight season with 17.9 points per game as he posted double-digit scoring in 28 of 31 games this season, including six 25+ point games. He also paced the Seahawks in three-point field goal percentage (.432) and three-point field goals made (83), while being third in both assists (83) and steals (44).
The 6-0, guard was picked as the CAC Player-of-the-Week twice and once as the PrestoSports/Pride of Maryland Player-of-the-Week, bringing his career totals to three and two, respectively.
A two-time team captain, Lesesne finished ranked third in the league in free throw percentage (.827), fourth in three-point field goal percentage and three-point field goals made, sixth in scoring, ninth in steals, 10th in assists, 11th in field goal percentage (.505) and tied for 12th in blocks (13).
