Lesesne Earns All-CAC Honors
North Huntingdon, Pa. - Capital Athletic Conference commissioner, Tom Byrnes, released the 2008 All-CAC Men's Basketball Teams Tuesday afternoon and Tyson Lesesne (Edgewood, Md./Edgewood) was the lone representative for St. Mary's College of Maryland as Lesesne garnered a spot on the first team for the second time in his career.
Lesesne is a three-time All-CAC selection, having picked up a first team selection in 2006 in his first year with the Seahawks and then being named to the second team last year.
The senior guard helped St. Mary's (17-11) capture the program's second CAC title and first-ever bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament with an 82-72 triumph over second-seeded University of Mary Washington as the fourth seed in the championship game on March 1. St. Mary's appearance in the CAC Championship was the first since the Seahawks won the inaugural championship back in 1991.
For the second straight season, the Seahawks have posted a winning record and are riding a six-game winning streak into Friday night's NCAA first round match-up against No. 12 Guilford College on March 7.
Lesesne is leading the team in scoring for the third straight season with 17.9 points per game as he posted double-digit scoring in 25 of 28 games this season, including five 25+ point games. He also paces the Seahawks in three-point field goal percentage (.421) and three-point field goals made (72), while being third in both assists (78) and steals (41).
He was picked as the CAC Player-of-the-Week twice and once as the PrestoSports/Pride of Maryland Player-of-the-Week, bringing his career totals to three and two, respectively.
A two-time team captain, Lesesne is second in the league in free throw percentage (.875), fourth in 3-point FG%, fifth in scoring, seventh in 3-point FGs made, eighth in both assists (2.79) and steals (1.46), 12th in field goal percentage (.497) and 14th in blocks (11).
