132 Seahawk Scholar-Athletes Named to 2008-09 CAC All-Academic Team

Complete 2008-09 CAC All-Academic Team

York, Pa. - Tom Byrnes, commissioner of The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC), announced Monday morning that 920 student-athletes from the nine member institutions competing in 19 championship sports were named to the 2008-09 CAC All-Academic Team.

St. Mary's College of Maryland led the conference for the second straight year with 54.1 percent of its student-athletes (132 out of 244) in the 13 CAC championship sports sponsored by the College earning a berth on this year's All-Academic Team.  The Seahawks were third with 132 student-athletes on this year's squad.

Student-athletes in one or more CAC championship sports that attained a 3.20 grade point average (GPA) for the academic year were rewarded with a spot on the All-Academic Team.

It's the third-straight year the CAC totaled at least 900 scholar-athletes.  In 2006-07, 10 institutions, including Hood College and Stevenson University during a transition year, combined for 942 student-athletes on the CAC All-Academic Team.  Last year, there were 900 members on the All-Academic Team.

York (Pa.) College, the only institution to sponsor all 19 championship sports, placed a conference-best 187 student-athletes on the academic team, while being second in percentage with 46.2%.  Salisbury University (136), Stevenson University (110), and the University of Mary Washington (108) gave the league five-member institutions with at least 100 student-athletes on the 2008-09 All-Academic Team.
