Eleven St. Mary's Field Hockey Players Honored for Excellence in the Classroom
Chandler, Ariz. – Eleven players represented the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team on the 2011 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad. This marks the 13th consecutive season that the Seahawks have been recognized for their academic prowess by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
The Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2011-12 academic year. Since 2000, St. Mary's field hockey players have earned 153 national academic squad citations.
Seniors Sam Locke (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase), Kelsey McKeon (Street, Md./North Harford), Jackie Reymann (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) and Susan Smith (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County) all finished their careers as four-year National Academic Squad recipients.
Joining the seniors on the squad were juniors Lauriann Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) and Katie Wisniewski (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall); sophomores Olivia Caretti (Bel Air, Md./Patterson Mill) Claire Kortyna (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pine-Richland); and first-years Christy Bishop (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg), Grace Fennessy (Bel Air, Md./Bryn Mawr School) and Kelly Shuman (Columbia, Md./Atholton).
St. Mary's ended the 2011 season with a 6-11 record, including a 4-3 mark in league action.
