Field Hockey Recognized for Excellence off the Field

Chandler, Ariz. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team was one of 95 NCAA Division III programs recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association for earning a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the 2009 campaign.

The Seahawks also had 14 members of this year's squad named to the NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad.  Since 2000, the field hockey program has received 133 academic squad citations.

The 14 student-athletes by class were one senior, five juniors, four sophomores, and four first-years.

Midfielder Amanda Bramble (Easton, Md./Easton) was the lone senior as Bramble picked up her fourth NFHCA academic squad nod.

Representing the juniors were forward Katie Cox (Frederick, Md./Linganore), forward Kristen Deegan (Highland, Md./Hammond), forward Caitlin Grice (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll), forward Ryan O'Malley (Crownsville, Md./Severn), and defender Megan Tracy (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright).

The sophomores were midfielder Sam Locke (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase), defender Kelsey McKeon (Street, Md./North Harford), defender Jackie Reymann (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) and forward Susan Smith (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County).

Representing the first-years were midfielder Amy Eaton (Rockville, Md./T.S. Wootton), Ellen Hackstaff (Denver, Colo./St. Mary's Academy), Natalie Hackstaff (Denver, Colo./St. Mary's Academy), and midfielder Katie Wisniewski (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall).

These student-athletes helped St. Mary's to an 8-8 (2-4 CAC) overall record.
