Three Second-Half Goals Propel No. 14 Lynchburg to Win

Lynchburg, Va. - The No. 14 Lynchburg College field hockey team used three second-half goals to overcome a 2-0 deficit and notch a 4-2 victory over St. Mary's College of Maryland in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.
Lynchburg's Allie and Jenny Weir (Richmond, Va./James River) connected on all three second-half goals, including a pair in the final 1:50, to lead the Hornets (7-2) in their second straight come from behind win.
The Seahawks (4-4) struck first just 1:42 into the start of the contest as freshman forward Lauriann Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) notched her team-leading fourth goal for an early 1-0 lead.
Freshman midfielder Natalie Hackstaff (Denver, Colo./St. Mary's Academy) gave the visitors a 2-0 lead at 18:07 as Hackstaff tallied an unassisted goal for her first career goal.
Freshman forward Lindsay Leonard (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) cut the lead to 2-1 in the first half as Leonard put back the rebound off her shot at 25:58.
The Lynchburg defense went to work in the second half as the Hornets held St. Mary's without a single shot.
Allie Weir knotted the contest at 2-2 as she converted a feed from sophomore forward Jordan Warrington (Ocean View, Del./Indian River) at 57:31.
Jenny Weir netted the game-winner with 1:50 left in regulation as she finished of a pass from her sister.
Allie Weir struck again at the buzzer as the Hornets made good a penalty corner. Jenny Weir and senior forward Erin Funkhouser (Natural Bridge, Va./Menchville) assisted on the play.
Lynchburg offensive unit fired off 25 shots in contrast to the Seahawks' seven, while dominating penalty corners as well, 14-3.
Senior goalie Sarah Cates (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) allowed two goals and mustered two saves in the win, while junior Emma Lauhoff (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) recorded eight stops and four goals against for the Seahawks.
St. Mary's will return to action next Thursday, October 1 when the Seahawks host Catholic University in a non-conference tilt at 4:30 pm.
