Parker Selected as October Athlete of the Month

St. Mary's City, Md. - Lauriann Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) of the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team was voted by the Department of Athletics and Recreation as the October Athlete of the Month after setting two school single-season records and leading St. Mary's to a 4-4 record.

The 5-7, freshman forward tallied 22 points in the month of October on nine goals and four assists, scoring at least one goal in seven consecutive contests.

Lauriann Parker Parker set the school single-season record for points in a season at 31 with her one-goal performance in a 4-3 overtime loss at Eastern Mennonite University, breaking the previous mark of 29 set by Marianne Wood '08 in 2006.  In that same game, she equaled the single-season record for goals in a season with 13, matching the feat first accomplished by Wood in 2005.

Parker had a career day in a 4-1 victory over Virginia Wesleyan College on October 18 as she notched her first career hat trick and added an assist for seven points.

She notched both goals in the Seahawks' 2-1 overtime victory over the College of Wooster on October 3.  Parker dished out a career-high two assists and added one goal in a 4-0 shutout of Hood College on October 21.

Parker finished her rookie campaign ranked tied for second in the Capital Athletic Conference in game-winning goals with four, fourth in goals (13), fifth in points (31), and tied for 10th in assists (5).
