Dixon Rocket Lifts McDaniel Past St. Mary’s

St. Mary's City, Md. - Senior midfielder Brooke Dixon (Clayton, Del./Smyrna) found the back of the cage just 3:48 into the first overtime period to give the visiting Green Terror of McDaniel College a 2-1 overtime victory over the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.

Dixon fired in a loose ball into the far right corner for her team-leading third goal of the season, helping the Green Terror notch their first win of 2008.

After a scoreless first half, McDaniel (1-2) struck first at 47:09 when junior forward Jessica Largent (Denton, Md./North Caroline) put back a rebound for her first tally of the year.

However, St. Mary's (2-2) responded with the equalizer just a little over three minutes later when senior forward Emily Norris (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) tipped in a rebound at the far post.

Penalty corners for both teams were dead even at nine apiece, while St. Mary's edged the Green Terror in shots, 18-16.

Sophomore Emma Lauhoff (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) had five saves in the Seahawk loss.

Freshman Stephanie Thomson (Glen Burnie, Md./Chesapeake) notched the win in her first collegiate start, making eight stops.

St. Mary's will now prepare to take on Capital Athletic Conference foe, Wesley College, this Saturday, September 13 at 1:00 in Dover, Del.  McDaniel returns to action this Saturday as well as the Green Terror host Washington & Lee University in non-conference action at 2:00.
