Weir Connection Comes through for No. 20 Lynchburg

St. Mary's City, Md. - The Lynchburg College field hockey team exploded for four second-half goals en route to a 5-1 non-conference victory over St. Mary's College of Maryland Sunday afternoon.

Allie and Jenny Weir (Richmond, Va./James River) each tallied a goal and an assist for the 20th-ranked Hornets (4-4).

Lynchburg's first goal came at 9:33 following a penalty corner.  After evading a defender, Allie sent in a shot towards the post where Jenny caused a high deflection into the cage.

The Seahawks (4-3) responded at 31:42 as sophomore forward Ryan O'Malley (Crownsville, Md./Severn) tipped in a rebound to knot the contest at 1-1 just before halftime.

The Hornets opened up the second half with a bang as LC notched a pair of goals in 25 seconds.  Sophomore Caitlin Gibb (North East, Md./Rising Sun) tallied her first goal of the season as Gibb put back a rebound.  Then Jenny put the ball into play in the circle and Allie touched it in for her team-leading 10th goal of 2008.

Freshman midfielder Jordan Warrington (Ocean View, Del./Indian River) and senior forward Megan Kempel (Millington, Md./Queen Anne's) each scored their first goal of the year to close out the scoring for Lynchburg.

LC took 19 shots to the Seahawks' 10, while the Hornets held a 7-5 margin on penalty corners.

Sophomore Emma Lauhoff (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) picked up eight stops in the loss, while junior Sarah Cates (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) recorded three saves in the Lynchburg win. 

The Seahawks will be back in action next Wednesday, September 24 when St. Mary's entertains Washington (Md.) College in non-conference action at 4:30 in Seahawk Stadium.
