Fredericksburg, Va. – Junior Dakota Merritt (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) garnered Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week honors for the week ending March 4. This is Merritt's first-ever CAC weekly honor.
The 6-2 outfielder earned CAC Player of the Week honors after batting .750 with five RBIs, four doubles, and two runs scored as St. Mary's College of Maryland posted a 2-1 mark in a three-game series against the College of Mount Saint Vincent. He notched at least one hit and one RBI in all three contests while tallying a slugging percentage of 1.250 for the week. Merritt becomes the first Seahawk to pick up the CAC Player of the Week award since current assistant coach Jared Eaker '15 collected the honor on February 25, 2013.
He opened the week with career-bests of three hits and three doubles and a season-high three RBI in a 23-1 win, before following that up with two hits, including a double, and an RBI in a come-from-behind 6-4 win.
Merritt currently leads the conference with a .667 batting average, a .692 on-base percentage, and a 1.111 slugging percentage while ranking tied for third with four doubles.
St. Mary's (2-2) will be back on the diamond this Sunday, March 11 when the Seahawks host Lasell College (0-1) at the Hawk's Nest in a seven-inning non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is at 12:00 p.m.
