Seahawk Baseball Splits Non-Conference Twin Bill at Gallaudet

Washington, D.C. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team snapped its four-game slide Tuesday afternoon as the Seahawks split their non-conference doubleheader at Gallaudet University.  St. Mary's posted a 10-3 victory in the first half of the two-game series before the host Bison responded with an 11-8 win in the nightcap.

Senior RHP Michael Victory (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) pitched his second complete game of the season for the win in the first game.  Victory (5-4) fanned six Bison batters while walking none as he allowed three runs on six hits.

Senior third baseman Keith Johnson (Great Mills, Md./Great Mills) paced St. Mary's at the plate in the first game with a 3-for-4 effort, picking up five RBI with a two-run double in the top of the first inning and a three-run home run in the sixth.

The Seahawks (15-17) jumped out to a three-run lead in the top of the first inning before Gallaudet (14-15) cut the lead to one with two runs in the first.  St. Mary's increased its lead to 5-2 in the second inning behind junior shortstop Corey Napier's (Hollywood, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) RBI double.

St. Mary's tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning and then followed that up with three additional scores in sixth for a 10-2 advantage.  The Bison added their final run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

In the second half of the doubleheader, St. Mary's and Gallaudet traded the lead through the first three innings.  The Bison staked a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning but St. Mary's answered back with four runs in the top of the second on three hits and two Gallaudet errors for a 4-3 lead.

Gallaudet regained the lead in the second inning with a pair of runs before an error by first-year Brandon Holsworth (Beal City, Mich./St. Louis) allowed the Seahawks to knot up the game at 5-5 in the third inning.  The Bison maintained the advantage by scoring six runs over the next three innings (three in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the fifth) to claim an 11-5 margin.

The St. Mary's bats were kept quiet until the seventh and final inning when senior second baseman Nick Urso (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) connected on a two-run double and the Bison walked in a run.

Johnson continued his strong hitting with a 4-for-4 performance at the plate while scoring three runs.  First-year DH/3B Zach Nadolny (Sparks, Md./Bel Air) added two hits and two runs scored but Nadolny was saddled with the loss after giving up two runs on two hits in 1.0 inning pitched.

St. Mary's will be back in action on Sunday, April 29th as the Seahawks travel to Doylestown, Pennsylvania to take on Delaware Valley College (10-14) in non-conference action for the Seahawks' season finale at 1:00 pm.
